Australian listed gambling investment firm Donaco International has purchased the Star Vegas casino in Poipet, the Cambodian town closest to Bangkok Thailand for a reported $360 million. Donaco will now compete against local rival NagaWorld in the Phnom Penh province for the attention of Thai gamblers.
A three hour drive from the Bangkok, Donaco International believes that it can turn Star Vegas into the leading casino in Cambodia, attracting visitors from Thailand, which has seen a crackdown on gambling by its military rulers.
Donaco International will enhance the 385 room Star Vegas casino property, which further includes 109 gaming tables and over one thousand gaming machines.
The acquisition of Star Vegas in Cambodia, sees Donaco International expand its presence within the Asian casino market, the gambling investment firm currently operates the Aristo International Hotel Casino in Lao Cai City which borders the Yunnan province of China.
The gambling investment firm was started by the grandsons of Genting Group founder Lim Goh Tong in 2002, focusing its strategy in operating casinos in developing Asian markets
