UK Bookmakers have placed Manchester indie rock band The Stone Roses as favourites to headline Glastonbury 2015’s Sunday night session. Glastonbury organisers are yet to confirm which act will play the festival’s closing night set on the legendary Pyramid Stage.

The Stone Roses had begun last week as 12/1 outsiders to claim the closing Sunday spot, however William Hill alerted the media that it had seen a raft of bets placed on the band causing the bookmaker to suspend the market.

At present the majority of bookmakers have priced the Manchester band as 6/4 favourites ahead of Blur 2/1, Coldplay 3/1 and Prince 5/1. Outside contenders for the Sunday head-liner session include Taylor Swift 7/1, Depeche Mode 12/1 and Kate Bush 8/1.

The UK music industry has met the news of The Stone Roses potentially headlining Glastonbury Sunday night with mixed reaction. The band fronted by lead singer Ian Brown, spilt up in 1996 and later reformed in 2011 to begin touring again headlining various other festivals.

‘The Roses’ have not released a studio album since 1994’s ‘Second Coming’, with many commentators pointing that the band may not appeal to the festivals younger audience demographic. Earlier in the year Glastonbury Festival Managing Director Emily Eavis had ruled out the band performing as headliners.

Glastonbury Festival 2015 takes place on Worthy Farm, near Pilton, Somerset, from 24 – 28 June. Confirmed headliners for this year’s festival are US rock band The Foo Fighters and Hip Hop artist Kanye West, all headlining acts performances will be broadcast by the BBC
