Travis ‘ScotLTravis’ Gafford, a hugely popular interviewer and journalist about major esports title League of Legends, has reportedly agreed a deal to join Yahoo’s esports editorial team.
The Daily Dot broke the story on Saturday with a nod to sources close to Gafford. It’s said that he accepted the offer several weeks ago after submitting his resignation to former employer CBS Interactive.
As a well known member of the League of Legends community Yahoo will have made a strong investment in its bid to be a leading news platform for esports. The company has been hiring numerous reporters in recent weeks as it looks to build an editorial and content creation team for each of the specific major esports titles.
Yahoo isn’t the only big company making big strides in esports in 2016. In January, ESPN launched its own esports section, hiring former Azubu managing editor Darin Kwilinski to lead the charge, in addition to former CBS Interactive journalist Rod “Slasher” Breslau and former theScoreeSports feature writer Tyler “Fionn” Erzberger. Technology company and esports sponsor HTC is also recruiting for an “esports specialist” to be based in San Francisco at present.
Should Gafford be joining Yahoo, it’ll give them a significant advantage over other news outlets in the League of Legends field. The content creator has over 116,000 Twitter followers.
