Sky Bet extends Euro 2016 #betterpenalties campaign

Adam RolandAs England prepare for the Euro 2016 knock out stages and a potential showdown with penalty nemesis Germany, penalty legend Matt Le Tissier has taken on the infamous German Robokeeper in a short film to show England how to do it.

Sky Bet’s Making Penalties Better campaign, created with Sports PR and marketing agency Heavyweight Sports, has run a series of videos throughout Euro 2016, which midway through the tournament has so far generated over one million views across social media platforms and several national media articles.

Adam Roland, Founder of Heavyweight Sports, said: “Making Penalties Better demonstrates the importance of topical engagement during big events like the Euros. It taps into the appetite of the audience, which although seems obvious when said, is something that is surprisingly forsaken all too often in brand campaigns as relevance falls by the wayside.”

Robokeeper is a robotic goalkeeper that comes from the land of penalty kings Germany, whose engineering proves one of the toughest tests to beat from the 12-yard spot. Robokeeper, who successfully defeated the likes of Neymar and Messi when challenged, shows all the classic traits of the Germans in a penalty shootout, a cool head and ultimate precision.

As Euro 2016 enters the knockout stages, England could need all the help they can get considering Sky Bet are offering just 5/1 Roy Hodgson’s team exit via the dreaded shoot out. The Three Lions are statistically the worst team in football at winning penalty shoot outs, with just a 14% success rate. It’s 10/1 that Iceland knock them out via a penalty shoot-out in Monday’s last 16 encounter.

  • England to be knocked out in a penalty shoot-out (5/1)
  • Iceland knock England out in a penalty shoot-out (10/1)
  • England knocked out in a quarter-final penalty shoot-out (18/1)
  • England knocked out in a semi-final penalty shoot-out (28/1)
