Ladbrokes defers presentation as Coral merger talks continue

inspired-virtualmobileLadbrokes has announced that it is to defer its planned business review presentation as talks over a possible merger with Gala Coral’s betting business continue. The presentation, due to be held tomorrow, was one of the early announcements by Jim Mullen when he became CEO as he planned to communicate his vision for the business, but events has since superseded this timetable.

The firm said that discussions with the board of Gala Coral Group Limited ‘about a possible merger of Ladbrokes and Coral Retail, Eurobet Retail and Gala Coral’s online businesses to create an enlarged business are ongoing’.

It added: “Shareholders are advised that there can be no certainty that the discussions between Ladbrokes and Gala Coral will lead to any agreement concerning the possible merger or as to the timing or terms of any such agreement and there can be no assurance that, even if reached, any such agreement would be completed.”

Meanwhile Ladbrokes has deployed Inspired’s Virtual Sports catalogue on mobile. The bookmaker originally launched Inspired’s Virtual Sports across its 2,500 UK retail outlets in 2005, and then Online in 2007. By launching Inspired’s Virtuals on mobile, Ladbrokes is now offering Inspired’s Virtual Sports across all channels, embracing the industry shift and player demand to access content across all platforms.

Ladbrokes Virtuals revenues have doubled since launching Inspired’s Virtual Horses and Virtual Greyhounds on mobile at the beginning of May this year.

Andy Bagguley, Digital MD at Ladbrokes, said: “I am pleased with the great customer response, it was important to add the Inspired Virtual content to our leading mobile platform, in preparation for our single digital desktop, tablet and mobile experience in July.”

Steve Rogers, SVP Virtual Sports at Inspired, added: “By launching our Virtual Sports on mobile, Ladbrokes players can now access their favourite games 24/7 on whatever medium suits them and be guaranteed a consistent high quality, premium experience on each channel.

“We are proud to be leading the gaming sector by creating unique multi-platform Virtual Sports entertainment experiences. Over the last 12 months we have seen a huge rise in the number of players choosing to play by mobile. This is driving significant incremental revenues for our customers.”
