Ladbrokes employee takes Betting Shop Manager Award

ladbrokes-adamhurleyAdam Hurley of Ladbrokes has scooped the 2014 Betting Shop Manager of the Year award. The manager of the Winchecombe Street branch in Cheltenham beat a strong final eight, also including Ladbrokes’’ Kirsteen Sutherland who was the regional winner for Scotland.

Hurley, who has been with the company since the age of 18, commented: “I’m so honoured to have won this award. It’s as good as it gets and I couldn’t quite believe it when they read my name out at the ceremony.

“I’m blessed to be part of such a fantastic team at Ladbrokes. It’s wonderful to wake up each morning and go to work with people I like and who share a love of this great industry. I’m passionate about betting shops and their future, and I can’t wait to get started on making a difference this year with the platform that this award will provide for me.”

The Ladbrokes Market Place Manager, who oversees five shops, is based at Winchcombe Street in Cheltenham, and was the South-West and Channel Islands regional finalist for the annual award sponsored by SIS and the Racing Post.

The other seven regional finalists were:

  • Anglia & South-East: Karl Watts, Jenningsbet, Leigh-on-Sea
  • Greater London: Marcie Fleming, Jenningsbet, Upton Park
  • Ireland: Declan Boyle, Toals Bookmakers, Belfast
  • Midlands & Wales: Robert Hayburn, William Hill, Wolverhampton
  • North-East: Chris Lindsey, Coral, Redcar
  • North-West & Isle of Man: Natasha Hudson, Coral, Stoke-on-Trent
  • Scotland: Kirsteen Sutherland, Ladbrokes, Erskine

Hurley added: “We’ve so much to be proud of at Ladbrokes but right now my priority is getting my voice back; I lost it somewhere between my table and the stage when I went up to collect my trophy. After that I’ll have a few drinks with my wife and then start making plans for the most exciting year of my life which is about to begin.”
