GamCrowd.com has partnered igaming-specialist law firm Joelson Wilson with the aim of helping to provide investors and entrepreneurs with the ultimate guide to crowdfunding at this year’s EiG.

Having served the remote gambling sector since the 1990s, Joelson Wilson has acted for a host of start-ups seeking seed capital funding. It has also assisted major corporates, operators and suppliers on mergers and acquisitions activity, commercial arrangements and regulation. Joelson Wilson’s five-strong team in Berlin comprises of partner Phil Hails-Smith, associate Digby Koe and solicitor Shula Hagan on the corporate and commercial side, with partner Niall McCann and barrister Anna Mathias providing regulatory expertise.

Hails-Smith recently advised Aristocrat Technologies on the sale of its European video lotteries business to Playtech. He will join GamCrowd chairman Ian Hogg, CEO Chris North and financial director Andrew Bowen, as well as iGaming Ideas founder David Sargeant, in a session chaired by iGaming Capital director Melissa Blau at 3.00pm on Tuesday, October 21, 2014.

“I am very much looking forward to joining GamCrowd in the Start-up Zone at EiG,” said Hails-Smith. “Joelson Wilson has advised gambling businesses for more than half a century and having personally been involved in the igaming space my entire career, we are bringing a wealth of knowledge to the show that will be of great benefit to investors and start-ups alike.”

Hosts of the Start-up Zone, GamCrowd will run a series of interactive talks and events that culminate in the LaunchPad competition, which begins at 11.30am on Thursday, October 23. Now in its seventh year, the Dragons’ Den-style contest will see five start-ups pitch to a judging panel made up of GamCrowd’s Hogg, in addition to Burlywood Capital’s Mark Blandford, Velo Partners’ Evan Hoff and DLA Piper’s Hilary Stewart-Jones.

“LaunchPad is testament to the flair, creativity and innovation in the gambling industry. It is recognised as an important event in the calendar, one in which GamCrowd is delighted to play an integral role,” said Hogg. “Through this, our partnership with Joelson Wilson and our other sessions, GamCrowd will be an unmissable, indispensable presence at the show.”

Further keynote sessions will cover topics including: how crowdfunding works, the impact it will have on the gambling industry, how start-ups can progress their igaming ideas, as well as the chance to hear from start-ups pitching for investment via GamCrowd and a Q&A session with GamCrowd shareholders and management. Throughout the expo, the GamCrowd team and some of its investors will also host meetings and informal sessions at the Start-up Zone.
